Enfilade House

The key organizational idea of the project is centred around the use of the enfilade. The enfilade has been used to create a organizational logic, shaping the hierarchy of programs from public to private. The enfilade has been shaped through the details of transformation between spaces in order to suggest a relation from one space to the next, along a spectrum of hard and soft barriers.
The Enfilade House grew out of a study of Andrea Palladio’s Villa Poiana. Palladio’s project leaned heavily on ideas of proportion and spatial relationships to create coherent and harmonic spaces. These discoveries about proportion and harmony provoked a search for the artifactual manifestation of this relationship.
This push towards a search for the artifact, caused an exploration into techniques which creates conversation and meaning between spaces. Continuing study of Villa Poiana led to the concept of the enfilade and the way it is used as a tool to shape the way spaces relate
to one another.
