The project looks to reimagine our public realm through play, discovery, curiosity, and engagement, offering new opportunities for publics to emerge. The project consists of a ribbon of lenticular sheets stretched between frames that are then fragmented, curved, and deformed to create a variety of spaces and visual effects. The lenticular sheets diffract light in a unique way allowing backgrounds to be visible while obscuring forms directly adjacent, creating the illusion of invisibility. This invisibility is the foundation of the project, calling on and questioning our role as actors in public space. The role of invisibility is further engaged in the night as the intensity of illumination responds to its occupants, further augmenting the effect of the lenticular sheets. The project was realized with 6th grade students from CSA Lincoln in Columbus who assisted in developing games focused on invisibility/disappearing that can be played with the structure. I was responsible for the design, prototyping, and fabrication, of the modules, visual effects, and electrical systems; specifically creating drawings, models, and the code for the lighting interaction.
